For anyone who recently transferred guard to army active, did you get to keep your sergeant rank?

The recruiter told me I would because I've been in for five years but I don't go to BLC (WLC) until July and we all know recruiters like to fib

See what he has to say and then get it in writing. If it isn't in the contract you are going to sign, then question your recruiter and don't sign if he can't/won't put it in writing.

Questioning the recruiter does nothing. The guidance counselors and senior guidance counselor are the ones that do the contract for a PS just like any other contract.

The reason you are keeping your rank is because the current USAREC Business Rules. That document spells out under what conditions a prior service can be accessed back into the Regular Army.

I have not made the transfer, but I would recommend scrutinizing the paperwork. It should be spelled out in there what rank you will be.

If the recruiter told you that you would, it will be in your contract.
If it's not in your contract, entering as pay grade E-5, then....it will have something else. And you can balk and have that corrected if it happens.
That's all the recruiter can do.
So again, check your contract.

Exactly what Sfc John Long said, pay attention to your contract and make sure it says you will coming in as a SGT.

About a year ago I inquired if i could keep my Staff Sgt. Rank if I went active the only thing I could find for sure was if your N. C. O. School was the same legth as active duty I could keep my rank. But Obama killed that with his budget cuts. At least in my National Guard Unit . Unfortanately each is different. I had to get buddy buddy with a Jag Officer .

There is a lot that actually goes into this. If your job is not on the ps business rules then you won't be coming in. The PS business rules outline everything. Honestly best chance you have of going. Active duty is taking a rank deduction from your unit and being able to reclass as long as you have less then 36 months active federal service time.

I was never a Guard or Reservist but back in 2010 I had this SSG which is (SFC now soon to be retired), in my unit he told me when he transferred from Guard to Active he was then SFC and he was knocked down to SGT.
