For those who have been stationed near Colorado Springs, what are your “bucket list” things to do in the area (hiking, restaurants, etc)?

It looks like I’m heading to Carson next, which is super exciting. I’ve been in touch with the person I’m replacing and it looks like it will be a challenging, yet rewarding assignment. My wife and I also love the area. We’re hoping to put together a list of places to visit when we get there. We’re both pretty big hikers, although we’re not in “mountain shape” right now. Any ideas of places to go and things to do would be great. TIA!

Best duty assignment man. I’d go to Manitou Springs and check out the Loop first. Get the margarita. It’s larger than your head. Talk to the locals and get their input on mountain attractions. There are a ton of eclectic restaurants in Manitou Springs. It’s a walking town there is plenty of window shopping as you recon the area. Next stop head up to Woodland Park. If it’s not on fire it’s another cool town to hang out in. If you hunt or fish I got a ton of G2 for you. Last comment- get a damn 4 wheel drive. You are in Colorado. It’s going to snow and rain and sunshine all in one day. Be prepared for it.

I would recommend holding off for about 60 days on anything real strenuous. But I definitely recommend doing the incline at least once every couple months. Garden of the Gods is a gorgeous place to hike. There's lots of stuff and places to go outside of Fountain, and by the raceway. It's all in what you like to do.
By the way, if you hunt at all, DO NOT bow hunt for elk. Learned that one the hard way.

Hello Sir. It would be great to visit the Red Rock Canyon, Garden of the GOds, Helena HUnt Falls near the Colorado Springs Zoo, the Incline and the Pikes Peak Mountain in the summer time.

The Manitou Springs area is great to see and you would enjoy a morning stroll as well. There are a lot of good things to see there! It's also Family Friendly!
