Fort Bragg, NC: What can you tell us about the Housing-on/off post and the Duty Station?

Any duty is what you make of it. You'd have to experience it yourself. I've spent 13.5 years on Fort Bragg ("The Center or the Universe") and its alright with me. Tons of history, close proximity to a lot of anything. Whether you are with The 82D ABN DIV or not; it doesn't matter. Home prices are great and the surrounding communities are great as well. I have been at Bragg for10 out of my 16 years and getting ready to go back. The base is pretty good. Fayetteville itself is garbage.

I was only stationed on Ft. Bragg for 3 years, but I live in the area now. We live in the Anderson Creek area. Our address is Spring Lake, but we are outside the Spring Laker proper area by about 8-10 miles. A lot of military live in our community and they are building a second section to it that is geared towards first time buyers.

As far as Bragg is concerned, as others have mentioned, it is what you make it. As an AGR and a leg, I would hear rumors that Reservists were treated less than, and legs were definitely treated less than human. I never encountered that. In fact, it was an airborne unit that adopted me as one of their own and I was always treated with respect. And no it was not because of rank. Like anywhere else, you will be treated how you allow yourself to be treated. I like Bragg and I'm glad we still live here. You will have plenty of people willing to help you out with whatever you need.
