I'm not surprised this is the action they took after a Soldier made headlines for posting about hiding out because she didn't want to salute. I agree with the actions they took. What are your opinions on the matter?

I think it's appropriate. Though I'd hate to be anywhere near those same intersections 5 minutes before colors!

While I understand the idea of stopping traffic for the flag, it has no bearing and will make no difference on the Soldiers who it is intended to instill discipline in. Stopping traffic wouldn't have prevented the Soldier from hiding out in her car taking selfies - and it won't stop any others. It's a fine idea, but to do it as a reaction to situation doesn't make sense.

When I was stationed there 98-01, they always did stop traffic in the morning and evening. when did they stop?

SGT Richard Souza
SGT Smith, I left in Jan 2011, and at the time they only blocked traffic directly in front of the flag pole. When my unit was working access control, however, we did stop all traffic at the gates when we could hear the music from the speaker system.

There are a few gates (5 and 6 specifically) where you cannot hear the music. I just happened to be leaving one of those gates and was stopped about 2 minutes prior and they have the MP sation radio the gates to stop traffic, let them know when the music starts and stops so the MP's call the line of people to attention, present arms, and orders arms.
