What are your thoughts for each base, especially for a 92g and 91b? What about housing on/off post? We also have a 3 month old son.

I spent 3+ years at Fort Sill a long time ago. There was plenty of off base housing in Lawton. At that time military housing for E-5 and below was almost non-existent.

As for Fort Polk - this is close to the worst assignment in the Army. Not sure what is worse, but there probably is one.

PV2 (Join to see) They issue you a knife so that you can cut through the humidity in July and August and step outside.

Only place I can recall that consistently has 100% humidity and no rain. There’s a reason they trained for Vietnam at Ft Polk…

Never stationed at Ft. Polk, but I have been there for training. In my opinion- It's not somewhere you want to be stationed. It's really out in the middle of no where Louisiana & there is not much to do there, unless you want to catch some Gators! :) Just kidding.

I have been stationed at Ft. Sill, OK, while it's not the best post in the Army- it's way better than Ft. Polk, LA. it's at least a decent sized town 75,000-85K or so (it's been a while since I was there) and there's plenty to do there as far as restaurants, malls, etc. Many families that I knew lived outside of town for the better schools.

Not much good to say about either of these bases. Both are about two hours away from major cities. Humidity is intense at Ft Polk, Sill has tornadoes and 3.2 beer.

Speed limit is 75 mph on the turnpike, and OKC is only 90 miles away. If you take the more scenic back roads, its a longer drive, but worth it. Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge is next door. LETRA. Medicine Bluffs for rappelling. Wichita Falls, TX is about 90 miles south. Casinos, if you're into that. Yes, they have tornados. I lived in Oklahoma for over 20 years and survived.

Hey as of 1 OCT 2018, 3.2 beer is gone. I only took them a lifetime to get rid of it.
