Hello, I've been retired for a little over a year now and I'm getting bored and wanting to look for a job. Is there anywhere in the Jacksonville, NC area hiring? I have a bad back and joints so I really can't be on my feet for extended periods of time. I'd love to work outside somewhere!

SSgt Rick Gresh, have you looked online? I searched "Jacksonville, NC and hiring veterans" and this page came up as the first option: http://www.indeed.com/q-Department-Veterans-l-Jacksonville,-NC-jobs.html
There might be something there for you.

SSgt Rick Gresh I know how you feel. I'd had a few rough patches finding employment. The important thing to do is narrow your job search. If the local market is full on that specific job, then you move to the next thing you're interested in. Target companies that are military friendly as well to get a leg up. Have you had your CV updated recently?

Look into American Systems Corporation.
There should be quite a few other contracting business attached to Camp Lejeune, check the USMC/Navy PIO's there.
Allied Barton does alot of security work in the area.
Also look into USAJOBS.com for the area and study the OPM job hiring process , and investigate VA assets in the area, surely there are many given the area. Also there is the VFW and the Legion.

You need to look at Orion International, I've had great success working with them, though I never really accepted a job through them. I retired in 06 and had a mini bidding war between a few companies, also remember, the recuiting firm were to get a percent of my salary, so they were trying to get the most for me.

Sounds interesting! I'll have to check it out if I can remember. My memory sucks bad. The thing is I'm not really looking for another career so to speak. I just want some sort of job that gets me out of the house and earn a few extra bucks. I've looked at UPS, but I'm not sure my back could hold up. Not to mention the days of waking up before the birds do are behind me. Unless I'm going hunting lol. Jacksonville, NC is not a really good place to retire it appears. I'd love a job that gets me out in the wilderness. If I could land something like that I just might make another career out of it.
