Going overseas. Will TMO store ammunition with the rest of my household goods?

PCSing to Japan. I have upwards of 5,000 rounds of ammunition that I would either have to have stored with my household goods or with family. The latter would be the only option if TMO does not consider it a temporary storage item. Has anyone done this before?

Don't know the correct answer to your question, but I would store if for you with my ammo so it wouldn't be lonely. Of course I would do random heath and welfare checks on it to ensures it fires properly.

Well it only makes sense to test the ammo periodically to ensure that it is being stored properly.

haha nice try MSG! but my ammo is custom loaded to my firearms, so i don't think it'd do much for ya.

Unless Air force TMO is different then what the Army uses, no, they will not store "hazardous materials"
But contacting your TMO and asking, then following up with an email they respond to is a good idea if they say they will...GET IT IN WRITING

I've never done it TSgt (Join to see) , but TMO didn't let me SHIP ammo in household goods (HG) so I would assume (I know! LOL) that they wouldn't allow storage either. I'd be curious what they say.

TSgt David L. - 5k rounds, I don't think I could limit to just "sampling" with that small amount and not run though it in a year...

SGM Erik Marquez - Being a good EOD Tech I have to stay current on disposal procedures per TM/FM. I therefore have to expend, I mean dispose of 30 rounds per day. 1560 rounds per year should provide data for the entire lot. Say TSgt (Join to see) is gone for 3 years, which comes to 4,680 rounds of expenditures, I mean disposal. That would leave him 320 rounds of ammunition to use upon his return to the States. However, this does not allow for dud, hung, or unserviceable. Lets say that 6 rounds are "dud, hung or unserviceable". Another 312 rounds are somehow not fired over the curse of a year. This leaves 8 rounds available for his shooting trouble. Seeing hows that would totally piss me off to only have 8 rounds to shoot. he would rather just leave the remainder for MY shooting pleasure.
I don't personally know any of you, but I sound like a hellofa guy, and should be commended for even bringing it up, but, that's how I roll.
BTW, I would extend my services to anyone who feels that they may have excess or hazardous ammunition. Or firearms even. I really am flexible to the situation!
Quite a guy..., quite a guy.
