Going to my first big networking event since retiring from the Navy last month. Any tips?

Definitely have cards. I recommend setting up a LinkedIn account (if you haven't already) so that you can connect with those you meet and maintain contact. If there's a way to obtain a list of attendees and screen those representing those industries/companies your most interested in...get it.

Make yourself business cards and hand them out. Start building up your Rolodex or contact list.

Look for headhunters that specialize in military recruitment. That was how my second career began.
