Good Morning, Vietnam! Did you enjoy the Robin Williams movie? Did you have issues with it regarding war?

That 2LT was the classic example of everything NOT to do as an officer. It urks me to see that flag and torch on his collar.

I loved the movie! And no, I do not have issues with it and the movie was very entertaining. First off, it was based on some actual events that took place in 1965 in Saigon. I wish that it was still on the air when I was in Nam in 69 and 70. To me, it would of been a great morale booster!

Likewise, great movie, that in some ways imulated the life and times of Vietnam solider's life style. Who doesn't remember how boring Armed Forces Radio was. Haha.

SGT Lawrence Haney - You are right Brother, Armed Forces Radio Sucked. We were mostly up by the D and we listened to that bitch, Hanoi Hanna! At least she played good music!

I loved the movie. It was comedy so you need to understand that it will take many liberties. Sit back and laugh. Just like I love "Down Periscope".

Oh We the People took lots of lessons from our experience in Vietnam. We must have. We keep repeating the same mistakes with such regularity and accuracy, that it can't be happening by accident.

I think that he created a light-hearted aspect to the War. It was horrible, terrifying and everything those soldiers went through over there and back home was gastly. For this fictitious character to be included into the whole thing, made it bearable.
Laughter is a great medicine for those in need.

I think it illustrates that while Cronauer was not a trigger puller, right on the front lines with combat troops, he was nevertheless an important part of the team because of his positive effect on troop morale.
I read somewhere once that said as long as a person can makes jokes during a bad situation he is okay, and this is what he did, help the Servicemembers laugh at everything that was bad over there. I think this was why he butted heads with SGM Dickerson so much ("He reminds me of Donna Reed, especially around the eyes"), who seemingly had no sense of humor.
