I have been a member of the DAV for 25 years. I spent about 10 years of that as a Volunteer Chapter & Department Service Officer and nowadays serve as the VA Voluntary Services Representative at the VA Medical Center in Lake City, Florida. I am a Past State Commander for the DAV Department of Florida and a Past National Executive Committee Member for Florida (District 7). I currently hold the Office of DAV Department of Florida Judge Advocate and am the Chapter Adjutant for DAV Florida Chapter 1.

They sent me a membership enrollment form, but I didn't fill it out. I only have a 10% disability for a chronic shoulder injury. I would feel pretty silly telling people that I'm member of the DAV.

Did you serve? Yes. Were you injured in the line of duty? Yes. What's your problem? You do not have to be 100% to be eligible. I for one will never look upon a service connected injury or illness as silly!

You can become a member with a 0% rating through the VA. It's not silly at all. It shows that we all have an injury or illness because of our time in service.

Congratulations! I'm with the DAV Department of North Carolina and I'm one of our youngest members for our state.
