SPC (Join to see) SPC Cody Parker I went through the process, though mine was considerably more difficult than what you'll face. My RE3 was for medical discharge. Find a bulldog of a recruiter that knows what steps are needed at what time, as sets up the dominoes to fall exactly as they need to. It took me 3 recruiters before I found mine at Whiteman.
It is MUCH easier to get the waiver for the RE-3 code than it is to get it changed to a code that allows re-enlistment/commission.

SSgt (Join to see) Yessir I have a friend who had the same situation as you that had a small disability rating and he had said he tried to go back in and it was very difficult because he had to give up all of it etc long story short he decided not to go, I am keeping my same MOS and everything and I don’t have any medical issues it was just the PT test so I’m hoping for a smooth process!

SPC (Join to see) - You should be good. The only reason they provided for not being able to go back Security Forces was that I'm now 41 and have lost a bit of hearing. I'm the oldest E-3 EVER!!!! LOL

SPC (Join to see) - I'm not upset. Got Geospatial Intel. So far it looks pretty interesting to me. The wait to get to tech school, not so much...LOL.
Same here. I'm in until either they say I can't be in any more, or my body does.

RE-3 because I screwed around on a pt test 2 weeks before ETS. Currently looking to go back in as an officer. Navy had already granted me the waiver, Army has also, conditional on passing a new APFT prior to meps, had absolutely no issues

Ok hey thanks a lot man that really eases my mind I appreciate the response! That’s exactly what they told me I just have to be back to my weight obviously but also pass a PT test with the recruiter and they said I should be good! Thanks a lot man, The recruiter said it will basically take no time for the waiver to get approved once they submit for it, Did yours take some time or was pretty immediate?

From the Navy not at all, they didn’t even require the test, just a personal statement that said I knew I’d been an idiot.

Haven’t actually done the test for the army yet, focusing on finishing my degree first (3 months left)

SPC Cody Parker yeah one recruiting station told me I wouldn’t even need to take a PT test but the one I decided to work with wants one just to be safe I’m sure

It can be done and I've seen it done successfully for the Navy. You must be diligent, jump through all hoops presented, and be good at waiting it out. Give it a try is my advice.

Has anyone actually been through the RE-3 code waiver process and had positive results?

Follow the tag RE Code and actually look a it. There is tons information on here on this topic.

Cliff Notes: work with a recruiter as they are the gate way to the waiver process. Too many variables, particularly with medical with QUAL vs DQ.

Yea I got back in with that code. It was a simple waiver and I had to write a letter. Mine was because I got out because of pregnancy.

Going to be tough- they just announced that we reached our enlistment goal this year, waivers will be looked at hard. Thought will be if you couldn't cut it the 1st time, why waste money on you again?

Well it’s not actually wasting money considering I’m keeping the same MOS also the army calendar year restarts in October which is next month therefore the goal restarts as well I’m more looking for helpful information instead of negative comments so thank you for the first piece of info you gave.

You are assuming you will do it right this time, the service does not have to assume anything, the facts are you filed, and 2nd chances could be a waste of money. It is a statement of fact not a negative opinion/comment. You failed to make the cut unlike many soldiers and there are damn few do overs in the service.

Jesse, it depends on both the RE Code and Discharge Code! I'd actually look at the discharge code more than the RE3. I process RE3 on a regular basis but I consider the discharge code. If the code indicates that it was a PT failure, then you will be GTG when passing HT/WT and an APFT. If you have questions, please let me know.
good luck, K

I dont know why I asked with out giving all the information. I dont quite remember but I had chosen to separate because I had home life issues and if I remember it was depression with mixed anxiety. 7 years ago an I seen a doc to get a note a years back when i started this whole adventure. I spoke to my recruiter late yesterday an his response was (i dont think they are going to do it man) .... but we will see

PFC Cody N/A if I can be honest, if you've been diagnosed with depression, it's not likely you would pass MEPS. That's serious. And just because you may not be experiencing signs or symptoms at this moment does not mean they will not come back. Its important to focus on your mental health and the Army is not the place. We have to focus on mission first. It's not that we don't want you, it's that this environment can exacerbate other issues. Best of luck.
