I have the option to go to Israel for a few months on a mission. Does anyone have any experience what it was like? Will I get a deployment patch? Any information you can give would be appreciated.

yeah, I spent a few months in Israel on mission. No, there's no patch, nice try ;o) But it's a BEAUTIFUL country, and I had a phenomenal time. I highly recommend you take the opportunity if offered.

SFC Michael Hasbun - the nice way is saying one was deployed to a Voluntold Host Nation (like Afghanistan/Iraq). Israel is a voluntary host nation. Like going to Germany or the UK.

SFC Michael Hasbun - Yes, but Iraq didn't volunteer to be a Host Nation. Going to Israel is going to a nation that volunteered to be a host nation. Sorry, stupid joke.

Like if I was president, I would say something stupid like thanking the Nation of North Korea for being a Host Nation for our troops. The planes arrive in T-minus 10,9,8,7,6........

Why would you think you get a "deployment patch" for a non-Combat zone? What's next, people asking if they get one for Korea?

It’ll most probably depend, on if it promotes something the political class wishes to highlight. Or not. Having participated in the allied defense of Israel, during the Yom Kippur War of 1973, as a member of a Minuteman ICBM Wing, I wouldn’t hold out much hope. Our actions literally, kept the Russians out of dropping the five paratrooper regiments they had ready to rock. Do you think we were ever acknowledged in any way? We ran right to the edge of the abyss that day, and stared hard into it.
