My battalion XO recommended that I attend a Landmark Forum event at some point for personal development.  I'm always a little leery of these seminars that have exorbitant costs to attend (the Phoenix seminar costs $550!) but at the same time, I'm always curious to see if there really is any good personal development that comes out of these.

Hey PO1,

It's been over a year since I originally made this discussion, and I've been thinking a lot about what personal development actually means.

I agree with you, quite a bit, actually. My local church has put me so much more inline with issues that I believe are relevant to the politics of today, if even they are only at state leve -- I'm seriously considering a bid for a state representative position in 2022. As far as the military goes... Chaplains are indispensable. I think that many servicemembers that don't prescribe to a particular faith or are atheist forget that these individuals are usually extremely well trained professionals with degrees in counseling, psychology, sociology, etc. My personal faith in God wavers from time to time, but if I ever need someone to steer me straight on the religious side, or as a regular human being, the corps of chaplains has always been willing to accommodate me, and for that, I'm eternally grateful.

Note: If anyone ever has a chaplain by the name of Kelly Rinehart, you do your damned best to give her the time of day. I owe that woman my sanity and likely my life.

Keep your head up, brother! No self-improvement seminar or program out there is more substantial than the one that reaches your inner-most being. Just open your heart and mind to it!

Not here to push my faith or religion on anyone, but being connected and regularly attending local church/chaplain services and members has so far served best for me in terms of personal development.

Keywords: being connected and regularly attending
