I earned my commission through the G2G Active Duty Option program. However, my good friend did the non-scholarship option. If you are looking to spend more than 2 years in school. The non-scholarship option is a good option. The only downfall is that you will have to compete for an active duty slot during the accessions process if that is what you desire to do. However, if you are active and want to be an Officer in the NG or Reserves, then it is a perfect option for you. All of the G2G pathways have their pros and cons, but all lead to earning your commission... which is all that matters in the end.

Thank you for your input Sir! I am currently in the process of PCSing to 4th BCT 25thID in Alaska. When I get there, I want to continue to add to the amount of college credits I require to become eligible for this program. My intent overall is to become an Officer in the NG component though. If not the non-scholarship option, then I will compete for a scholarship. Based on your experiences Sir, do you think a scholarship is as competitive as the ADO?

SSG (Join to see) They are all competitive, but they all look at more than you would imagine. I have seen people get a scholarship or ADO that had no business being an Officer, but they had one or two factors that won over the board (extra foreign languages, experience doing x y or z, etc.) If you have a fully completed packet, a good pt score, a GPA above 3.2-ish, and a good letter of recommendation... you should be looking pretty good. You mentioned wanting to go NG. If this is the case, they now have an option to do GRFD within Cadet Command. This stands for Guaranteed Reserve Forces Duty, which rules you out of the Active Duty competition and locks you in for the NG or Reserves (which means you get to select your branch on your own by contacting a unit and locking in the job you want). I would contact the school ROTC program that you are looking at and ask them for advice on this program, because sometimes you can get scholarship funds through the state you are looking at for the NG.

Thank you sir! With that I have, in addition to my college credits, I have a 3.8 GPA, and I raised my GT Score from a 92 to a 118. I also have two letters of recommendation, one from a former ROTC BDE CSM and one from a Colonel. I have met with the ROTC director at the school personally. I will get in contact with him to ask him more about the GRFD. It's time I've gotten all of the details on it. I also have some other good accomplishments to add into my packet such as Soldier of the Month boards and winning the award for Fort Hood Hero of the Quarter in academic excellence. Thank you for the advice sir!
