Has anyone gone from Navy to Army or National Guard recently? Did you get to keep your previous rank? How were sleeping arrangements?

Applying for OCS in National Guard, I was told I'd keep previous rank (E6), and stay in a separate room not open bay barracks.

Also, this isn't a complete discussion of all OCS programs, it leaves out Natl Guard OCS, as well as Army WOCS, and also OIS indoc programs for direct commission, however, I merely mention in case you might find it useful to peruse...also, not that my notion would alter your decision, I was just wondering, had you looked at other svcs at all. Possibly OIS direct commission programs? Are you STEM background for your major? Also, GPA, if you might care to say as well, just thought to ask, many thanks, hope is of use and/or interest....

I'm just curious, I have an interest in such things...I find interesting that as mentioned here, Natl Guard OCS trainees are paid as E-6, when I went USAF OTS after Army ROTC I was paypid as a SSGt, I do recall that, while I'd been an OT at the school, which I uses would be E-5, so hat rather caught my eye, for that reason...also, what major is your bachelors? What branch did you want to go for? Are you going grad school now or soon? I only ask that, as the sooner you'd get it out of the way, even for masters level, as well as any PME you'd have to do after the OCS, I !erely offer that as a thought, I realize Natl Guard might be different, I was just wondering, if you might be able to elaborate at all...interesting question....

I don't know about letting you keep your rank, but National Guard Officer Candidates get paid as E-6's. Accommodations will depend on what is available where the State runs it's schools. Are you going to do the long program or the accelerated OCS?

PO1 Nick Smith - Good luck. It isn't easy get psyched up each month to put up with the routine and I think it's the hardest way to get a commission outside of the service academies.
