I started my career as a reservist. I was a Supply Clerk, and transitioned to the Regular Army after I found I liked the military life. It required me to change my MOS to Fire Support Specialist, and ended up being a very worthwhile career.

I am very interested and I want to experience a new MOS. Do I contact a recruiter?

SPC (Join to see) - Yes, see an active duty recruiter. The information below should be helpful.

The Army is seeking Guard and Reserve officers, warrants who want to go on active duty
Reserve commissioned officers and warrant officers can go active duty if they apply to be considered within the next few weeks.

Yes. Was reserves enlisted then commissioned for almost 10 years then went active back in 2009 and remain so.

I think it's worth it for AD to pull from AR or NG if they want to switch over. They already know more than a fresh Recruit.

I did many years ago. As someone has already said, talk to an active duty recruiter to get the ball rolling. Keep in mind though, just because you may be eligible to go active duty, it doesn't mean that your unit will release you. I believe that they have the option to say 'No'. Good luck.

Very rarely will the reserves hold up an active transfer, the national guard is more difficult but the Reserves will need a reason to hold you like a pending deployment or such.

My experience might be helpful. I was in the Army Reserves and I wanted to go active duty. I had two problems with the Army -- they didn't want to train me for another job since they had already paid for my training a couple years prior, and they wouldn't allow me to go active until they were able to fill the reserve billet that would empty once I left.
The Navy, though, didn't give a rat-crap about the Army's requirements. I was able to enlist with them, and the only delay involved was waiting for an open school seat in my chosen career field.

seems like this topic has been coming up more and more lately. I went from active duty Marine Corps (1987-1993 Supply/Logistics) to Navy Reserves (1995-2000 Supply/Logistics/Master at Arms) to active duty Air Force (2001-2015 Satellite Communications) until I finally was able to retire. it might take some paperwork shuffling and change of career field but it could be done. definitely go to a recruiter or two!

An old classmate from school that had been in the Guards, went AD after serving his initial enlistment.

Active duty to reserves. And back on active duty. No matter what the people on active duty will whine about your rank.
