Has anyone had issues getting referrals and procedures approved from the new TriCare West Region contractor, Health Net Federal Services (HNFS)? Specifically have you had referrals denied multiple times forcing you to pay for dependent or retiree care out of pocket? Have you found that they will not approve care or supporting diagnostics for serious (and expensive) treatment such as joint replacements, heart ailments, cancer, surgeries etc. ?

I am in the East. I just went to TFL so this doesn't apply to me but they have a patient advocate. If you are having issues, you need to find that person ASAP. You might also want to alert your congress person about issues you are having with the contractor. Document everything!!!

Yes. And I have done both with mixed results. I have been communicating with other service members (Retired & Active Duty), and this is becoming a real readiness issue for Active Duty members trying to get care for their dependents. Its also a majoe problem for retirees. To get any progress, you need to appeal to an advocate or your congressmen to get care. That's now how the system is supposed to work.
