What is the quarantine process for pets? Do they have to be isolated for 120 days or does it cost $1000 per pet? How does the military deal with this? Thank you!

Start early like MSG said. I PCSd from Germany to Hawaii which was stressful enough. We started almost a year before I PCSd by following the checklist (Direct Release Option). We flew from Germany straight to Honolulu and were able to pick up our pets (cat and dog) the same day. Good Luck and don't hesitate to call the Quarantine office with questions, also consult your Vet because more than likely they have gone through the steps with previous Soldiers.

I had PCS'd with two cats back in the early 2000's and it was stressful. You should be able to get the answers you need from this site:

I completely agree that our pets are family, Ohana, no one gets left behind.

Hawaii is the only state that is rabies-free. It is important that we maintain that status. The introduction of rabies would have dire circumstances, not only for public health, but would have an adverse affect on Hawaii’s unique eco-system, tourism, as well as local lifestyle.

I just moved here in DEC-14 with my family and two small dogs. Start early!!! Go to the Schofield Barracks web page (http://www.25idl.army.mil/) and click the "NEWCOMERS" tab on the top left. Also, depending on what time of year you are flying and the airline, they also have their own restrictions and limitations. Alaska Airlines is what we took over here, and one of our two dogs was the ONLY dogs allowed in the cargo area, and our smaller of he two rode in the cabin, but had to be able to fit under the airplane seat. The veterinarian appointments and getting paperwork back and forth was a chore, but not impossible. I highly encourage getting on the website right away and getting as much information. My wife did all of the leg work while I was deployed to GTMO last year, and we were able to land at the Honolulu Airport and pick up our dogs straight from Quarantine. We couldn't PCS without our dogs, they are part of the family. Good luck!!
