Has anyone noticed that male NCOs have a problem telling female Soldiers that their hair is not within regulation?

Being a female I have major issues with the lack of care that females put into their hair. They wear it like they are trying to look cute in uniform. I have spoken to many of my peers about this and they all seem to notice when a female's hair looks horrible and is very much out of regulation, but they are afraid that if they bring it up that they will have an EO complaint or a SHARP violation thrown their way. I have also seen male NCO's that do go and correct female Soldiers and get blown off. The female tries to spin 670-1 so that she is within regs and I don't think that males understand the standard enough to fight back. I think that the new 670-1 with pictures will help leadership overall keep females to the standards that are expected of them. <div><br></div><div>If you have a female Soldier and you can tell that she goes out of her way to make her hair look "cute", do her a favor and pull her to the side. When I spoke to a group of ROTC females, I asked them if they think that their uniform makes them look cute or if it flatters them? Of course all of them said no. I then asked them why they try to make their hair look cute when they do not look attractive in uniform? None of them had a good answer. I explained that as service members we are to look as alike as possible and that we are supposed to make sure that we can operate safely while in uniform. Having cute bangs or head gear that does not fit properly is not safe. Maybe this will help your young female Soldiers understand why the regulation is the way it is.</div>

WACs and ANC Should be glad they not wear cords any longer, especially in a hot, humid climate. They would know an unflattering uniform, even after a whole can of spray starch. LOL

The problem is 'education'.
Just like anything else, if a Soldier is educated on a subject, they can speak more intelligently on it.

I never have a problem telling any Soldier what they are doing well or need to fix. But you're right, ALL Soldiers need to know what they are talking about to address deficiencies or corrections.

I have seen male NCOs tell a female Soldier that their hair was not in compliance with the regs. I think the problem lies in the fact that many male NCOs don't know or aren't familiar with the female standards in the regulation. It would be difficult to call out something that doesn't comply with Army regulation if you don't know what the regulation is! As NCOs, we need to know what the standards are and enforce those standards. If we don't know, then we go look it up!

SFC, I've had my Soldiers come to me repeatedly since the 670-1 change to inform me that some 1SG stopped them and told them they are not allowed to have their hair in a pony tail, while in PT uniform conducting PT. At this point it doesn't seem like all leadership is aware of what the standard is. I'm almost certain that not all leadership is aware that females have 30 days to fix the issue starting from APR 1.

As leaders we are responsible for enforcing the standards. We often draw upon our experience when making a determination of whether a correction is needed, and sometimes we make mistakes. The regulations change and it does occasionally happen that we might not be fully aware of the new rules. I will say that I am surprised about that 1SG not being aware of the new 670-1 though, because those changes were very highly publicized...

CPT Siebert, You are correct. The leadership goes by what they think is right. If I was not sure, I would always pull the regulation as taught . But there are a lot of changes that are done or in the process of being changed or rechanged. How can you enforce something that is constantly changing? It can be hard to keep up sometimes. I know it is not a good excuse but it is true. As an NCO we have to go by what we know and if not sure get the most CURRENT reg. If I am wrong, please correct me! Just the way it seems to me!!
