Wife is having our second child, so I had my report date pushed from Nov 18 to February 10. Deferment is already approved.

WO1 (Join to see) Ok riddle me this, how did your report date change? How were you officially notified?
You need to get your orders amended if they have issued you them already.

All the time! Army trumps personal desires. Nevertheless, a very professional conversation with your branch manager can take you a long way!!!!!! Get with him/her ASAP and talk the issue and, as you mentioned is approved, s/he will most likely write a note on your file and and reassure you of your status.

Number one rule of thumb - always needs of the Army! Consider picking up the phone and calling your branch manager and talking with him or her. They might be able to reassure your future or inform you of the possibilities that lie ahead due to the circumstance! To often folks don’t think about taking control of their career, and just let the Army do it for them... Call them! Might ease the wife’s pregnancy as well as let you concentrate and put your mind at ease on a few thing young man - like welcoming your new child and taking care of your family and concentrate on work instead of worrying about your next assignment!

Oh, and when you become an NCO, do this for your troops! Because obviously your NCOs didn’t think enough to assist you or think to help you with this same guidance... Then again, maybe you just didn’t ask them?
