Has the idea of diversity, and the obvious push for this idea, become something more toxic than helpful?

Diversity has been used a lot lately in order to subject businesses and schools to different initiatives and rules. Diversity is also the primary aim of programs such as affirmative action. But has this simple idea of creating populations within organizations that include as many "different types" of people doing more harm than good? What are your personal opinions of the push for diversity?

Yes. Instead if all cultures poured into a melting pot, all cultures are celebrated as equally good.
That is New Age perversity to divide a nation.

Problem with diversity is liberals created a system based off race rather than qualifications. The anti Ameircanism spreading in this country will be the destruction of diversity.

The "primary aim of programs such as affirmative action" is ending adverse behavior ("discrimination"), not with creating some sort of a desired population ("diversity"). If the behavior would go away, programs like affirmative action wouldn't be necessary. I don't have a problem with the push for diversity. However, I do take issue with the level of diversity sought, depending on the situation. I think that the level of diversity should be based on your surrounding population, much more so than the overall population. Diversity in Salt Lake City looks quite different than diversity in New York City. Organizations in Utah should look similar to their surrounding community (from which they draw employees), but that's not the same as trying to create an environment in SLC that looks just like NYC.

What I hear you saying is that people of diversity don't have the ability to succeed on their own merit. That sounds like guilt base bigotry. I believe everyone has the ability to succeed if they put forth the effort. Not everyone will succeed, because not everyone has the talent, physical or mental capacity to succeed at every level, it's natural selection at work. Do you believe in freedom of thought and choice coupled with personal accountability/responsibility.

Cpl (Join to see) - You're hearing what you want to hear, and not what I actually said. Feel free to put words into your own mouth, but stay away from mine. I'm perfectly capable of articulating my own opinions. I could do the exact same thing you're doing by saying "What I hear you saying is that people of diversity are lazy and can't succeed without these laws because they won't put forth the effort." However, I'm not implying that you're saying that.
Yes, I believe in freedom of thought and personal accountability/responsibility. I know exactly what you're doing by asking that, and your implication is completely off-target. Take that perspective and find someone else with which to try that stupid game.

"What I hear you saying is that SOME people of diversity are lazy and can't succeed without these laws because they won't put forth the effort." That is almost exactly what I'm saying! I fixed it for you. And FYI, there are white people in that category, my mother for one, so get off your high horse.

Cpl (Join to see) - I'm on a high horse? Aren't you the one articulating some Utopian form of meritocracy? Aren't you the one putting words into other people's mouths? Aren't you the one calling people lazy? Aren't you the one implying someone isn't for freedom of thought and personal accountability/responsibility? You need to look in the mirror.
