I play mostly RPGs and MMO's. It's a really relaxing to be able to immerse myself into another virtual world. Another benefit is the ability to talk to friends regularly no matter where I am in the world through game chats, Discord and otherwise interact with others through the problem solving mechanics of the game. I find the teamwork translated well to my job when I was in the Army.

I have played for hours on end in the past but later on I've discovered that games are an escape and avoidance to face my demons aka. PTSD ( and emotions ) for which I wasn't receiving a treatment yet. Once I completed the 12 step STAIR program, something has "clicked" in my head and don't nearly play as much.

Yes. Sometimes when I feel overwhelmed I tend to turn to video games or music when I cannot get out of the house.

Have you tried any artistic mediums? I am a hardcore gamer and an Abstract & Figurative Expressionist. Art is a great stress reliever and helps release the deeper issues in my life. Maybe art could help you?

Yes, games help deal with Stress. Hard levels though may cause frustration so I must take breaks and try again later.

There are always catalysts for stress. You should watch for stress triggers, learn how to deal with them, avoid them if you can, then go home and find what works for you to decompress from the stress of the day. But, if you have a family, go to them first. But, that goes without saying...
