I am about to finish up with the Reserves, the reasons are plenty. As my unit hasn't stated it, it is clear that mobilization is not too far off. The only way they could mob me, is to stop loss me - which would suck, since my civilian career development would take a hit.

Official guidance regarding stoploss can be found in the Personnel Policy Guidance published by DA G1. This guidance is traditionally the most update information out there in regards to mobilization/deployment. (With the exception of alaracts/milpers) I was stop lossed in 2003 for OIF one. I

It CAN still happen (and I expect to see it start ramping up again with the next conflict), however right now it will only happen for very select low density/high demand skills.

As the CSM states, it CAN also happen for entire units going into MOB status, but right now the standard is to separate those who won't be able to complete X% of the MOB, if they don't re-up. Given that we are looking to cut strength, I don't see that changing in the near future.

Thank you LTC Stoneking. This goes very much in line with my own research, I just has started to feel uncomfortable while getting a bigger and bigger role in my civilian job. Things that makes me grow - I don't want to risk the progress I have been building for years.

Have anyone been stop-lossed in the Reserves? Does it still happen?

Good morning. If your unit's upcoming mob occurs before your reserve obligation is up, i would begin to mentally prepare myself to go now. If you hold a critical or shortage MOS, the unit will more times than not cut you orders to mob with them. You can look at going into the IRR if you are close to fulfilling your contract in good standing. Just a thought.

SGT (Join to see) SGT they don't have stop-loss anymore. What they have now is a volunteering basis called DCIP. Kinda works like stop-loss, only difference is you extend for a year and you will get an extra amount of this many dollars of this many months. I signed up for it so I could deploy, which we ended up getting off rammed for an Active Duty unit.

Hello,

As a Marine Infantry Reservist I was activated with less than 30 days left of my active drill contract and spent my 1st year of IRR on Active Duty in the Triangle of Death from 09/04 to 03/05 and although we had still been state-side when my contract expired and I probably could have fought hard enough and not gone as we'd had several Marines get out I chose not to. Even if I had been stop-lossed, which was/is open for debate because it depends on who you ask (my Ex O at the time said I could have gotten out), I wanted to go. I had spent 6yrs of training and wanted to put it to use. Now, I do apologize as this isn't completely relevant to your question but if you have not been deployed before you will kick yourself for getting out and your unit does get deployed. God forbid they take any casualties you will live the rest of your life feeling like you've failed and let your brothers down if they go and you don't. There's not a civilian job on the planet worth the regret and if it's a good job isn't legally obligated to hold your position. Just some food for thought. My unit went back to Iraq in 07 or 08 but their work up was set to begin right around the time I was hit by a car and permanently physically disqualified. Had I not been hit by that car I wouldn't have gone a 2nd time. Again, this is just some food for thought. I still hang around with some of the Marines that got out right before we left and there's not a day that goes by they don't regret it. Especially since one of them lost his best friend in a roll over accident while we were training at some movie studio in Ca.

Thank you for your input SGT.

I find your comment very relevant.. and I can agree with you. I have deployed before and then I was active duty and felt it was my duty. In the Reserves I feel like I have been dicked around alot, and just feel done with my obligation. I will do whatever is required of me - but now I have started to progress nicely in the civilian sector and would hate to undo what I have accomplished, that's all.

Not sure they can do that anymore, in 2006-07, I believe Congress declared that a back door draft. Might want to check in to it though, I've been out for a few years now.

thanks for your input SSG... I missed my stop-loss by 22 days back in '08. That was wild.

It can but it doesn't happen that often. As LTC Stoneking stated only if there is another large conflict will it happen. With that said its kind of a joke due to the fact I have had individuals come out of the IRR to the unit and have it so they do not have to deploy. Every year they say they are getting rid of the IRR so you have individuals that will come serve out there last year or so... its crazy

I was stopped loss in 2006. I was not happy about it at the time because I had to leave my 4 year old son behind and was just devorced one month prior to. But I ended up reenlisting overseas, the last few months I was there. Stop loss is not in effect right now but it can come back. How much time do you currently have? Are you not planning on reaching 20 good years for a retirement? Reserve retirement is based off of points. Deployment points help your points increase significantly. Just an FYI.

Thank you MSG. But I am not intending to stay in, only ride out my contract that is just shy of a year. The Army is taking steps in a direction that does not make me feel that it is the stellar organization I once felt it was. It has become a playground for sensitive souls, and I am not cut out to be a baby sitter for these millennials sense of self-entitlement. Instead I leave and move on with my life.

I'd like to ensure you that you are safe but I am unable to. Currently, there is no stop loss but I do not know if or when it may return. You would have to extend your contract in order to receive orders. And it sounds like you don't have any plans to so you should be good. To deploy you have to have the deployed time they require plus 90 days after. If you have less, again, you would have to extent to get orders.

SGT (Join to see) I was going to stay out of this conversation because I don't have much to contribute to it, but I just had to give you kudos for this comment. Hoorah, Soldier.
