Ah no. That patch was used for both airborne and glider after WWII and was authorised (though rarely worn ) in lieu of the beret up through the early 90’s. I had a cap with that sewn on but never wore it. Liked my beret. The metal glider badge looks exactly like the air assault badge but with a glider in the center instead of a helo. It is worn on the uniform the same as the airborne or air assault.

My Dad had a Glider Badge. I have it now in his keepsake box.
He was in the 82nd.

So, I’m wondering (after several correct answers), if a soldier going through jump school in 72 and awarded both jump wings and the glider patch (not a pin on metallic) device, is authorized to wear the glider patch on the new service headgear. There are still a few soldiers out there from that era.

We used to wear the glider patch on our overseas caps at the 101st Airborne Division. This obviously was before the beret became the replacement cap. But I've never seen anyone with a glider badge.

Actually, that patch was both airborne and glider and we were authorised it up through the 1990’s in lieu of a beret. I just never wore it.
