I am curious if anyone on here thought about leaving RallyPoint. Why did you think of leaving? Why did you If so what made you stay?

Yes I have, the reason is pretty simple. The discussion format is one of the worst layouts to actually encourage discussion out there. It's anti intuitive, labor intenvise and just plain not user friendly (especially the app). What keeps me coming back is the uniqueness of the actual concept and even more so the people!

LTC (Join to see), I am not saying that they have to go to a standard discussion board, but a far better method of categorizing everything outside it being"somewhere" in /answers

TSgt Joshua Copeland and TSgt J.D. Hall I understand. I had that issue in the past as well or have tried to find if someone already asked someone and not find it. Weeks later my discussion was merged because someone already had asked it. Not ideal in that aspect, but if the standard list as in other formats it may be harder to get others to comment on questions if they were years old (should a 2LT salute a 1LT?) instead in this format it pops up to the top.

LTC (Join to see), that depends on how the software is configured. Many other forum software applications allow the default sort order to be one of a few different configurations ranging from date of initial post, last post, and number of posts. Some even provide granularity to only show the last x day/months/years of posts.

I would like to see them go to a standard discussion format. I don't know the reason why they don't. Just to be different? Different isn't always better.

Thank you and agreed, only one hiatus per member! lol Well, let's see it wasn't so much what brought me back as it is what kept me away; simply put, the last several months have been just that action-packed! : )

At risk of sounding like a broken record, because I've said it in other threads, yes because of the format of the site. I stayed, because I like to talk military and this place is more transparent than other military sites. Meaning I know the true status of the people I'm talking to.

SSG (Join to see) what do you view as a train wreck? I am curious what your view is.

Sometimes service members post questions and they're taken out of context or the poster doesn't state their position as clear as they should and more than likely the responses are negative. Then it's just a train wreck and reading the responses is akin to watching said train wreck.

I've not really ever wanted to leave it...but I've gotten sick of it. So I stay away for a few weeks then jump back in. Sometimes when people can't just agree to disagree and then take it to a new level drives me bonkers and I don't want to read it.
That said I love RP and have gained a lot of knowledge and insight from using it and I'm not giving it up that easy!

I can't leave. I would miss the exchanges. It keeps my mindgrapes sharp. Lol

I would suggest being able to stack by currency/chronologically. I find myself in a rabbit hole sometimes and then realize I missed additions to threads that I genuinely am interested in seeing come to fruition.

CMSgt (Join to see) , I asked in another thread to have the option for the user to be able to change their default sort order for posts in a thread. The RP default is "votes", which I really don't care about. I would set "newest".

I agree, Sir. I keep up to date on other branch information. Since I am a SEL in a Joint environment, I am kept pretty well up to speed by Command Chief and CSM. But sometimes I read things on here that is great SA.

I once took a hiatus because other life concerns took priority and RP was taking time away from focusing on them, but once things cleared up I returned. I enjoy the community here and keeping in touch with my military roots. There are just some things that are easier to talk about here than with my civilian counter parts due to the commonly shared life experiences the military gives us.

As I have said on other threads, I have thought about leaving RP when I hear that admin changes people's posts or has added photos to them without acknowledging that they have done so. In fact the last time I expressed this feeling my post was removed! Apparently there is freedom of expression on this site as long as you don't critize admin for changing members posts.

Obviously I don't think this should be happening and while I have asked for a specific RP policy on this matter none has been offered. I think that is sad. We have already had one SM get disciplined for how his post was changed. This should not be tolerated.

PO2 Jonathan Scharff I did not hear of someone getting in trouble for a change in their post. I know when I update or correct a title or add topics it is done due to grammar error (They're instead of Their, etc.) or spelling mistake (ther instead of there). The topics I add is to bring more to the topic if they do the search. I only put topics that are very relevant to the discuss (Such as adding the topic of saluting under a question that talks about saluting). The tools are there to help, not change the topic completely. Sorry if you had issues in the past.

LTC (Join to see) I think the problem is that there is no specific policy. Your response, changing grammar, spelling etc. is the exact responce that one of the founders gave regarding what he changes. I am stating that there should be a specific policy regarding editing a members post. What is allowed and what is not. It really doesn't help if three admins respond and state what they do, as that isn't a rule or policy.

As far as the specific member who had this problem, I hate to call anyone out. Suffice it to say he has expressed this exact issue several times in other threads and the problem it caused for him as he is SM. Ironically this person is another Admin! I just don't understand why RP can't address this with a specific policy. Simply state what an admin is allowed to change and what they are not. Then if something else is done, at least that member has some policy to point to. As it is now we simply have a lot of admins giving their opinion as to what they do and that isn't helping anyone. Changing someone's words or meaning is a serious thing that I feel should be addressed.
