After reading the new ADPs I can honestly say that I have a way better understanding of the direction of the Army and "Big Army" operations. I also recently went to a NCO of the Month Board and can confidently say the information I had to study from the ADPs and the reading and understanding study method better prepared me for higher level leadership responsibilities than the old study guide material. Don't get me wrong I strongly believe that the older stuff, First Aid, Land Navigation, Army Programs, Weapon Systems, Customs and Curtsies, Code of Conduct, ect...is VERY important but a SGT/E-5 should not be leading soldiers if they don't already have a good fill for that stuff.

Have you been in the new pubs? Do you think the information is more relevant than the older material?

I have started preparing classes on each ADP and introducing them to my section. A good method is starting with; ADP 1 The Army, ADP 6-22 Army Leadership, ADP 7-0 Training units and Developing Leaders, then moving on to the more complicated stuff like Unified Land Operations and Mission Command.
