So I saw my first military poser today at Wal-Mart of all places. Had Army ACUs, popped collar, what looked like a white turtleneck and Doc Marten's boots, patrol cap on indoors, no name tapes anywhere, Marine Corps Globe-and-Anchor on his pc, no unit patches and an American flag patch with no stars. I asked him what unit he was in, he responded with being an E-7 petty officer in the Navy.

I would have looked at him and told him stop disrespecting my brothers and sisters in arms because we are giving up our freedom and our lives so he can live in the civilian world. If your going to try to impersonate at least do it right. I call this stolen valor l!!

Had one in my area. Felon, neck and hand tats started wondering around town wearing ACUs with 1LT rank and a Ranger Tab. Even put crap on his Facebook. Fellow officer informed he had him stopped one night in his costume. I beat feet over there and informed him that if I found that he had profited even a nickel I would make sure he was prosecuted and that there were a few people who would tear his arm off and beat him to death with it for wearing that Ranger Tab.

Never. I'm disabled-bedbound & do not go out unless it's to medical. Family are military-would like to think I'd spot a poser @ 1st look. Used to be a nurse-not the same as military, but hate posers as nurses too. Worked my ass off to get through school on my own, now anyone can buy scrubs at Walmart & say they are a nurse. The harm they could do...

Used to think the same way. Met a dude with an EGA tat never Been in but liked to do the soldier thing. Well he had cancer and recently passed so if it makes the sick happy so be it IMO. This is why I played hard Corps music in the Coast Gaurd for. That's hard Corps MF. So suck it.

I had a guy using his expired Army Reserve ID trying to get money to get back to base because he was getting deployed and his car broke down. Problem is there are no bases in the area except a reserve base for Army and Marines and where the ship out for all the AAFES for the west coast. I happened to do my weekend warrior-ing there after getting off active duty. I asked him if that was where he needed to go. He said "yes." I asked him if was stuck why not call his commander and see if one of his NCOs could come pick him up so he didn't miss deployment. He said he lost his cell phone with all of his contact info. I told him "no problem I have the Colonel's number right here." I was on a date but offered to give him a ride to the base, but I asked him if the guards on duty usually let him in with an expired ID and why I had never seen him at the unit over the five or six last months of drills.
I told his story was BS and he shouldn't be panhandling with a BS story it was degrading to himself and the Army. I asked him if he was stuck and needed to get somewhere. I offered to give him a ride and a meal if he hadn't eaten. He just grabbed his ID and ran off.
I don't know if this is stolen valor but it pissed me off and made me really sad at the some time.

If he was simply there to shop it shouldn't be an issue ... I'm in a |||% group I wear acu all the time no issues . Now if he was asking ppl for help and donations and actually claiming to be military when he is not then yes a throat punch and vfw blanket party well deserved .
