So I saw my first military poser today at Wal-Mart of all places. Had Army ACUs, popped collar, what looked like a white turtleneck and Doc Marten's boots, patrol cap on indoors, no name tapes anywhere, Marine Corps Globe-and-Anchor on his pc, no unit patches and an American flag patch with no stars. I asked him what unit he was in, he responded with being an E-7 petty officer in the Navy.

Annnnnd, go...

I have met a few that would come into the casino, wearing jacked up uniforms and sneakers. Mostly they just wanted comps for rooms and stuff. They usually piss off after being told no. But my thing is, if your ever driving around and visibly spot a "stolen valor" not just a dude wearing a jacket, I tend to wear my cam pants when working. but actual standing around trying to get money and visibly jacked up. Offer them a ride, bring them to the recruiting station and say "well your already ahead of the game, you got the uniform, now go get the title"

Honestly these posers do me no harm. Let them be. They want what we have so let them think and believe what they want. I've seen enough shit let them have half of our memories and they won't want to be us anymore

Posers are ether scamming or they are nuts. Ether need to be corrected. I am not particularly violent but when I find a fake begging by the road, I film him on my phone and forward the pic to the local police. I have told the shit heals that they are about to pay for their fraud with pain and blood when I know for a fact that they frauds are poising as vets, they always run. Usually to a nicer car and a nicer house than I live in.

SSG (Join to see) - that's different brother! If they are begging for shit they are no brother of mine. My ex-wife's grandfather was part of the zebra platoon. He served the U.S. against his own uncle in Japan. We were at Walmart one day and my wife sent me back to get another LB. Of beef roast. Upon my return I run into 2 soldiers trying to bust his balls. ( at this point he has had dementia for awhile ) my wife was begging them to leave him alone. I approached calmly at first and asked them to back off of him he is Kojiro Kawaguchi! They called him a poser and kept saying he was stealing Valor. I looked at my ex wife and and I snatched the first one up and threw him back a few feet and removed my shirt to reveal my tattooes in which they calmed down immediately. I showed them who he was explained the situation and went about my way. This is why I never say anything. 1. I served my country not to belittle anyone 2. I love this country and the people in it. 3. Who are we to judge. When I went through Meps and got my orders to Ft. Jackson my family tattooed U.S. Army on there forearms. No stolen Valor

I think the part that everyone in this post fails to see, is that the Original Poster didn't get aggressive or shame him off the bat. He clearly explains that the individual's clothing did not match in any way, he asked the guy what unit he was in. And instead of saying "oh I'm not in the services I just REALLY support them." He continued to falsify his identity. Is this grounds to arrest him? No. But it is certainly not the Original Poster's fault for questioning him. I think the best way to handle this is to continue asking questions. Let him shop, don't impede him. But just walk with him and attempt to conversation with him. "Where's your duty station? Oh yeah? I'm stationed out in Fort Drum myself!" And so on until he realizes that you know he's full of it. Then simply explain to him/her. Something along the lines of "hey look man, it's cool. I don't think it's a problem that you enjoy wearing the service gear. But it's not okay to lie and talk like you're actually in the service. I'm not going to go traditional drill sergeant on your ass. But don't act like you're in the services. And maybe stick to one piece of gear st a time. The next Vet might not be so forgiving."
It is a big deal to impersonate a Vet. Whether it's intended to get recognition or not, it's disrespectful to act like someone you're not.
But we shouldn't go around throats punching people just because they like servicemen and what they wear.

Sorry, but I have been in too many funerals for guys who died wearing that uniform. They have no right. They did not suffer, they did not sacrifice, and they present a poor example of us to an ignorant public. I will fuck them up every time I catch one, with the assistance of the police. Stolen valor is stolen valor.

lol... I can't... I did 20 yrs with five deployments and I'm now retired... the one thing veterans that I know don't do is wear our uniform just for gp.... and if I wear it around the house just to see if I can still have it lol I wear it properly.. all I can say there are those that wish they had the pleasure of being a member of the best armed forces in the world, but never did for what ever reason, so they do the next best thing 'pretend '

I get a kick out of posers but myself being a EW3 back when there was EW's in the Navy, I would rather wear Camo's of any other service over my Bell bottomed dungarees I wore in service. I would never wear my dress blues as that was way to long ago. Still love the camo look though. I just believe that anyone that does not suffer from a mental disorder that pretends to have served needs a ass whopping that ranks up there with my CC back in boot camp.
