So I saw my first military poser today at Wal-Mart of all places. Had Army ACUs, popped collar, what looked like a white turtleneck and Doc Marten's boots, patrol cap on indoors, no name tapes anywhere, Marine Corps Globe-and-Anchor on his pc, no unit patches and an American flag patch with no stars. I asked him what unit he was in, he responded with being an E-7 petty officer in the Navy.

Annnnnd, go...

I have not. However, I really haven't given it any concerted efforts of observation, either. Given that anyone can walk into any Army/Navy surplus store and be 'a poser', I'm not sure what the big deal is. I would be concerned if a gate guard on a military instillation couldn't spot 'a poser', I guess. But, why would I care if there's 'a poser' in Wal-Mart? Actually, given the kind of people who tent to frequent Wal-Mart, I'd be more surprised if I DIDN'T see 'a poser' there.

Not that I know of, but I've been out since '82 and a lot has changed as far as uniforms go. Other than NG and Reservist, there also isn't a large military presence in my home town.

If he referred to himself as an E-7 Petty Officer and not a CPO, he's full of crap.

You forget, though rare, there ARE E-7's that are not called "Chief"...those that chose to skip Initiation.

I never made it there. I called them all Chief. I can't imagine not going through initiation in the old Navy. The new Navy is a different thing altogether.

Yeah, my terminal assholishness kept me from passing the Board...and I've seen Chiefs that didn't rate the title.
