So I saw my first military poser today at Wal-Mart of all places. Had Army ACUs, popped collar, what looked like a white turtleneck and Doc Marten's boots, patrol cap on indoors, no name tapes anywhere, Marine Corps Globe-and-Anchor on his pc, no unit patches and an American flag patch with no stars. I asked him what unit he was in, he responded with being an E-7 petty officer in the Navy.

Annnnnd, go...

I personally feel that the majority of stolen valor cases involve people with some sort of mental deficiency. we have to be careful not to get so hyped up when we see things at times , because ther have been mistakes made especially when you are talking about older vets from WW II , Korea , etc. Some of their uniforms were a lot different back then. I got out in 1992 and the Cammies I wore are no longer standard in the Corps. They were just starting to put the nametags on the cammies I wore when I was discharged.

Also, I ran into a guy who had a Marine Cover and Blouse on and I asked him where he served, he was very honest and told me they belonged to his brother and he never served at all but he lost his brother in Vietnam years ago and he pulled out a picture of his brother and had tears in his eyes, and said he never got over losing his big brother. I shook his hand and bought him a beer. You gotta be careful sometimes folks.

The closest thing I have run into as far as stolen valor is a couple of guys who were liars. One was at a bar and he had no clue how many of us were actual vets and we called him on his BS and he run like a bat out of hell. The other was a dumbass at a job i used to work at weho claimed he was a Marine. The Idiot supposedly went to bootcamp at PI, but could not remember his platoon number , the name of his Senior DI , and claimed he never had a problem with the sand fleas. Oh and when I called him on it, he pulled out the old I got and sent to medical card. Where he allegedly was treated by Marine Doctors. I asked him if he was sure they were not Navy Doctors and he said no they definitely were Marine Doctors. Anyway his lies kept on to the point they were actually entertaining and civilians who never served began to call bullshit on him.

Anyway I do have a problem with those people who pretend to be one of us vets and they are able to profit off of lies. These guys are scum and criminals.

This poser is a waste of well-spent anger when the real poser was CIC for the last 8 years...til 1/20/2017

I have seen a couple in my time. Doesnt bother me much, i know what i did and what my brothers did, so, its not that much of an issue, not like they are going to benefit from their behavior, sooner or later people figure them out. These people just have acceptance issues, inferiority complexes so they just do the passive thing and dress up like a military person. Dont let it get in you head, its not a personal thing. There are more things to make an issue of, like, what/where are you going to take your wife to eat dinner.

There are indirect posers as well; people with military experience exaggerating and/or making up stories.

What is the problem Mr. Ryan? You cannot take the heat so, you bail?

It is simple enough. Put your money where your mouth is. Put up or shut up, it's not hard.

Since you can NOT, your answer is to block those that can and have.

I honestly can say I have only seen them in other posts where they have been caught, It is sad that someone has to stoop so low as to pretend that they are in or have been in the military just to get what they are looking for. I know I would be very disappointed to find a person doing this and I'm not to sure how I would handle the situation. if law enforcement was available at the time I would get them involved. years ago when I was younger I would have probably stripped them on the spot and given them a ass kicking they wouldn't forget , but now days as most people do I would try to think of a more peaceful way, because I have family and grand children to look out for. I remember how we were treated when we came home from Vietnam, not a great welcome. these wannabe's I just don't understand our valor and what all went or are going through. I live next to a Marine Air Station (CP) and we see all branches of military everyday. so maybe this is why I haven't seen one in person, hope I never do, not sure how I would react, keep up the good work and thank you for serving.

I was introduced to a dude at a party that was telling his friends and family that he was an F-16 pilot. Our mutual friend, said, " Josh, this is Adam. he flies F-16s! Adam, this is Josh. He works on F-16s!" The look on Adam's face totally changed. As we talked about the F-16, I realized he was a phony. The question that did it was " When you break the safety wire on the manual pitch over ride switch, what happens to the stabilators? " Needless to say, he was completely embarrassed and made a lot of people upset. For the first time ever, people were interested in talking to an airplane mechanic :)
