So I saw my first military poser today at Wal-Mart of all places. Had Army ACUs, popped collar, what looked like a white turtleneck and Doc Marten's boots, patrol cap on indoors, no name tapes anywhere, Marine Corps Globe-and-Anchor on his pc, no unit patches and an American flag patch with no stars. I asked him what unit he was in, he responded with being an E-7 petty officer in the Navy.

Annnnnd, go...

Saw a male animal years ago wearing Army dress greens with sergeant major stripes and major leaves. Lots ribbons. Kid couldn't have been over 20. Just shook my head and went on.

I have a few times at Walmart, which seems to be their gathering point to draw attention from the public. I usually approach them by asking them what Halloween party they are going to. The funny thing is they do not even defend their service with a response. However, they do head for the exit because their con had been discovered and they know that there are many Vets in the area, which will go into overdrive mode once they are discovered as a fake. My take on this is that they are discrediting the Brothers and Sisters who served our military uniform services and the posers should be cited under a court of law.

The way I figure, unless they're trying to defraud people by way of claiming active or veteran status, leave them be. Once they cross that line, make sure the people they're trying to harm know exactly what they are. No reason to go out of your way to put your own career in jeopardy over someone who's worth less than the mud on your boots.

i served as a crewchief on a Huey
D Troop 3/5 Cav
9th Infantry Division
'67 '68
20 years later i met my first and only sv guy at a welcome home stand down in Cleveland, Ohio in fall '88
he was posing as a Sergeant Major, MOH recipient
he had spoken earlier in the day and i met him that evening
he was such an (please pardon the expression) "imPOSING" figure
big bear of a man starched, creased, spit shined and friendly as all get out
mingling with the crowd shaking hands, thanking guys for their service
right after he got in his RV and left these sv guys came and said he was a fake and they had all this documentation and were going to bust him
he took off in the middle of the night and never showed the next day
very bad
fraud
sad
i couldn't understand why anyone would go to all that trouble to do such a dishonorable thing
then i heard how much they had paid him

Yes. I was drinking at a bar and one of the people said his name was on the wall, I said "your name or someone with the same name" , his name. Those names where researched and cross referenced many times by different people. I called him out after looking up his name on the wall web site.

I have never been in the military. I am an aircraft mechanic. One evening I was out with my then-girlfriend and a woman she worked with. This other woman had her boyfriend show up and he was a huge poser. Started talking about his Vietnam experiences. He definitely looked too young to have served in VN. He started blabbing to me about how he flew a Cessna O-2 in and out of hellish situations.
Getting tired of all this crap I asked him if he had ever gotten the chance to fly in a Marine Corps OV-10 Bronco...
...he said "uhh...
...what's that?"
He was a drunk who got kicked out of the Army and never flew anything in his pitiful life. Anybody who flew O-2s would certainly know all about the Marines' hotrod OV-10s...
