So I saw my first military poser today at Wal-Mart of all places. Had Army ACUs, popped collar, what looked like a white turtleneck and Doc Marten's boots, patrol cap on indoors, no name tapes anywhere, Marine Corps Globe-and-Anchor on his pc, no unit patches and an American flag patch with no stars. I asked him what unit he was in, he responded with being an E-7 petty officer in the Navy.

Annnnnd, go...

As a civilian I can't claim to know anything about our military or the true goings on of military life. However, the men and women who deserve to wear the uniforms always get my utmost respect for the sacrifices they make day in and day out so that I can walk free. Anyone who disrespects these men and women in any way shape form or fashion urks my soul to the core. People like that should be arrested for impersonation and prosecuted to the fullest extent of military law.

Ask him what his MOS is. People outside the military don't have any idea what that is, and confusion will set in. Ask him to show his credentials. Active and reservists should always carry their IDs around at all times. Veterans have VA cards, and/or retirement IDs. If they have none, kindly ask them to remove all their pins and patches off their uniforms, as they are meaningless. If they refuse, report them, and tgey can be arrested for false valor.

I've seen some asinine stolen valor videos where guys are just wearing camo pants and some boot wants to make a scene. That being said it's not the wearing of army surplus gear that is considered Stolen Valor. If they are tryin to gain something like a vet discount or a free meal, than it is deemed stolen valor. Some states extend to wearing ribbons you weren't awarded, and I think some even to rank you don't rate. I will call out a shitbird wannabe runnin around collecting at-a-boys everytime. Easiest to spot a fucked up Marine. Especially since we are not Allowed to wear are diggies in public. But... having done 5 years, and out now for close to 8, i wish a showershoe would try to say somethin if i decided to walk around with my blouse and chevron on.

I have not seen anyone yet. But there are some in Facebook profiles that claim to have served but did not.

Yes, we had one with MD Park Service, he spent three glorious days in boot camp at Parris Island, before getting the boot, and them having to call his mama. Now he likens himself to the vets that work around Ocean City, complete with Marine Corp tattoo, and the countless tales of his "military career". One of our officers, served with MC (Silver Star, Purple Heart) in Viet Nam, and is still carrying shrapnel, he says this poser sickens him, but won't let me either charge the poser or refer him.

I have kicked it up the chain of command for my agency, which I might add is another state agency, but as one knows when a supervisor says "I'll take care of it" it may or may not ever get done. We have both now retired.

Was at an American Legion . Talked to a guy who claimed to be in the first Gulf War . He didn't know anything about the country , kept telling me it was classified information . I told him that he was full of shit , had an altercation with him and throat punched the lieing piece of shit.
