So I saw my first military poser today at Wal-Mart of all places. Had Army ACUs, popped collar, what looked like a white turtleneck and Doc Marten's boots, patrol cap on indoors, no name tapes anywhere, Marine Corps Globe-and-Anchor on his pc, no unit patches and an American flag patch with no stars. I asked him what unit he was in, he responded with being an E-7 petty officer in the Navy.

Annnnnd, go...

Pretty damned loathsome. These guys must be sick. I have never seen one one, but I have HEARD a few. It takes restraint to just walk away!

I am the Adjutant for VFW Post 7898, Woodruff, WI. Hardest thing to get from new Applicants is a copy of their DD214. Even though you tell them you will drive them to the county VSO to get a copy if they don't have one.

Makes me feel sorry for the guy. I wonder what had happened to this guy. I'm always suspicious of guys with SEAL tattoos. We had standing orders not to get them. Even though hat was years ago, and I have several other tats, I don't get that one because of the standing order.

Yes. Not wearing uniforms but full of tall tales. Twice in the last two years.

I've come across only one person about whom I was suspicious. The only military stuff he had on display were a number of medals (the small versions) on his hat. What caught my attention was his three purple hearts. In the army, a second wound does not result in a second purple heart but rather an oak leaf cluster around the original purple heart. At least that's what I remembered (I served in the late 1960s). I didn't say anything to the gentleman as perhaps what I knew to be true is no longer the way it is. And, perhaps, other branches of the military do, in fact, award a second and third purple heart medals for being wounded multiple times.
