So I saw my first military poser today at Wal-Mart of all places. Had Army ACUs, popped collar, what looked like a white turtleneck and Doc Marten's boots, patrol cap on indoors, no name tapes anywhere, Marine Corps Globe-and-Anchor on his pc, no unit patches and an American flag patch with no stars. I asked him what unit he was in, he responded with being an E-7 petty officer in the Navy.

I run into posers every now and then. When I was in the service I use to see posers more often. Probably close proximity to the Post or Base.

Probably the most outrageous that I have personal knowledge of was a guy who claimed to have been a SEAL in the 101st Air Cavalry Division. (his words, not mine)

Yes, when we got back to Germany in 1993 from being in Somalia, we soon saw an Enlisted Administrative Specialist, who work in Awards who write his own form with signature for a Bronze Star. He then submitted it and it was approved but he got called out on it when he was caught wearing it... all because he felt left out from not being in Desert Shield and Storm, Bosnia and Somalia.

My dad was a PO3, SH during Vietnam. I've studied military customs and courtesies. Even though I'm civilian, I take my cover off inside. IMO if you are going to impersonate geeze at least get your uniform refs right. Right branch, right insignia...bastard.
