So I saw my first military poser today at Wal-Mart of all places. Had Army ACUs, popped collar, what looked like a white turtleneck and Doc Marten's boots, patrol cap on indoors, no name tapes anywhere, Marine Corps Globe-and-Anchor on his pc, no unit patches and an American flag patch with no stars. I asked him what unit he was in, he responded with being an E-7 petty officer in the Navy.

Annnnnd, go...

I have ran across various posers, the ones I love are those that claim to have been in the Corps. So I will just start up a conversation with them and then ask them where they went to boot camp. I ask if they went to Key West or San Francisco. Always gets them.

I did not come across a stolen valor yet but I always tell my brothers and sisters in arms "If they are taking the time and effort to put on the uniform and come up with a story "they should be put in mandatory detail for the military". We have a lot of activities in military posts where they can be used to do very productive details.

I had a friend on Active Duty that completed the Special Forces Training but only got a Completion Certificate. He wore the SF Flash and I made him take it off.

My one and only poser encounter happened to be a good friend for years. I kinda suspected him years ago, when he said he was on a 'secret' mission in 'Nam, and could not talk about it. And, then after he was continuing to borrow money from me, as I had worked in Alaska for eight years and he thought I was still loaded after being retired for 10 years, he asked for money to help with his wife's medical expenses, and that's when I popped this question to him. If you were in 'Nam, can you not join the VA for the medical benefits provided for both of you? I never heard from him again, and it is the end of our friendship!
I was just a simple non-combatant Army medic from 1962-1965, with duty at Walter Reed and then 2nd/54th Inf., 4th Armored Division, in Bamberg, Germany. The Army treated me good, and many days now, I wished I had stayed in for the 20! Retired for good in Dunedin, Fl.
And, I love this site....!
