So I saw my first military poser today at Wal-Mart of all places. Had Army ACUs, popped collar, what looked like a white turtleneck and Doc Marten's boots, patrol cap on indoors, no name tapes anywhere, Marine Corps Globe-and-Anchor on his pc, no unit patches and an American flag patch with no stars. I asked him what unit he was in, he responded with being an E-7 petty officer in the Navy.

Annnnnd, go...

If I see them collecting money and they are posing I alert the store manager. Otherwise I let them be. Everyone you meet in a bar was a seal or a ranger or an admiral. It's usually conversation over after 2 minutes of lies.

I'm thinking a little jail time, preferably with some vets.

I have run into a couple myself. I have yet to see a poser in uniform. I had to call out a guy for claiming to have graduated from FT. Benning Ga, Airborne School. He talked about it was the hardest month and a half of his life. He kept saying they had to pull there own ripcord and it was even scarier during HALO jumps. He was trying to impress two women with his stories. I stopped and asked how many jumps they made using static lines, and he responded none. He told me to walk away with my fake BS. I informed him to do his research before he made shit up as I showed my Veterans ID. I told him the next time I saw him lying about what some of my brethren have died for that he would regret ever meeting me. I personally never went through Airborne school, but my brother and many people I knew did. I did 8 years in the Army and I'm not stupid.

As a submarine sailor in an Army town I generally don't confront people wearing military style clothing but you can always tell the vets from the thrift store commandos by the way they carry themselves.
