So I saw my first military poser today at Wal-Mart of all places. Had Army ACUs, popped collar, what looked like a white turtleneck and Doc Marten's boots, patrol cap on indoors, no name tapes anywhere, Marine Corps Globe-and-Anchor on his pc, no unit patches and an American flag patch with no stars. I asked him what unit he was in, he responded with being an E-7 petty officer in the Navy.

Annnnnd, go...

I think just by looking at the picture they are mentally challenged. We need to ask n evaluate the person before getting in his face. Some think they are somebody by impersonating a Marine. Of course u always have the asshole who is really trying to fool people n bismark the real heros of our nation.

Interestingly where I work we had a contractor come in who is in the Army reserves as an officer but he was an enlisted in the Navy prior to that. One day he was sitting in my cube talking to some other contractors and started telling sea stories about being on a submarine as a member of a SEAL team. Hmmmm. I let him ramble on trying not to laugh but then he said he had spent 200 days underwater. Really? Wow. So I picked up my USS San Francisco (SSN-711) coffee mug that has my name embossed on one side and the ship's logo and patch on the other. Just started twirling it around. Saw his eyes latch onto it. Then I left to get coffee. His stories changed drastically after that. lol

What is it with POSers.....it takes about ten minutes of conversation to discover them.....they do no research...... they have little or no knowledge about the fake identity they are trying to claim...... it is beyond insulting....it goes clear to incompetency..... Had a man claiming to be Special Forces....who could not even recognize the crest or patch..... thought it was a ranger crest and patch...... embarrassing

This guy in the photo above is funny. You would think that if he went through the effort to accumulated all this bling and eye candy he would at least do a google on AR670-1 or check order of precedence. Two years ago I met close up and personal a true poser. I was on security at the South Placer Stand Down in 2015 and was assigned overnight watch on the back gate along with this other person. I can't recall everything he spouted off to me. I had 8 hours to listen to his BS. When we started out, I believed him. Then as the hours wore on so did he. It turned out that he had multiple Purple Hearts, Silver Star x 2, Bronze Star and CIB and Jumpmaster wings. But his stories of his exploits in Vietnam just flat out didn't happen. I began to question him and his reply always led back the age old PTSD defense of his faulty memory. When I got home that morning I did some research on some of the BS I could remember - funny thing was, they must have all been classified because I could not find any information. When I showed up for my shift the night I was prepared with an extended index finger to poke him in his eye. But, imagine this, he did not show up. No one has seen him since. I doubt he was even a veteran although we had to produce a DD214 or VA card or some other form of proof of out veteran status. I think I would recognize him still today if I run into him. He was wearing some Army/Navy Surplus Store mixture of utility uniforms.

As a new airman, fresh out of tech school, I was home on Recruiter assistance program(RAP) and had an individual bring in his fiancé to inquire about possibly joining the Air Force. His fiancé left to take a pre-qual ASVAB test, while waiting he informed us of his 6 years in the Navy in which he left basic as an E-4, and went on 4 9month deployments in those 6 years, he "retired" as an E-7 after 6 years.
