Have you seen military posers in person?

A few years back, a couple guys come into my VVA chapter, wanted to join. They must've had a standing order with Medals of America, they were wearing pretty much the whole catalog. Asked to see their DD-214's, (required to join). "We never got one. We were too far undercover. Everything we did is still classified." Yeah, sure. There's the door, don't let it hit ya.

No never personally. There was civilian at Ft Lewis who claimed all records of his Viet Nam POW time were burned and the other man with him died in captivity. He made the fatal mistake of telling his tale to on base news. Then there was the guy who claimed involvement in a Korean War massacre at No Gun Ri. He even went to unit reunions

I understand wanting to stop stolen valor. But some of ya all need to cool it on the stolen valor hunting. I had a guy the other day get all in my face in a Lowe’s parking lot because I had disabled veteran plates and he wanted me to prove it because I wasn’t missing a limb. I’m just like “there is nothing I can do that would satisfy you. So just move on before I call the cops”

These guys are just pathetic, I’m sure most take a look and can see there’s absolutely no military bearing at all. People aren’t being fooled they just ignore these guys.

Oh my God, who cares?

I havent personally had much of a chance to go downrange cause of how slow it's been lately but I've talked to a lot of people within my own leadership and that I've just met and some people have seen their brothers In arms gets blown to pieces and gunned down and that's where I take some issue with it because to them it's not just something you can buy In a surplus store it's something people they knew died protecting. It gives you that feeling you got when you first joined up that it's something to be proud of. Whatever anyone wants to think is fine but there's also no reason to verbally harass the poor dunce or even start smackin on him. I think calmly letting them know it's not alright to lie about service is a better solution. Gotta remember whether you're guard, reserve, active or retired we all reflect on what people think of the military

I worked with a guy as a cable installer. This guy was your typical one upper. I serve so of course he had to have done something more grandiose, like transport guns for the military. Mind you he's working as a full time cable guy but whatever i just humored him, as the lies were so blatant that they didn't warrant comment or aggression.

Where my patience wore thin was when he started to brag up his connections with the military through his brother. He claimed his brother had just joined and was on the way to Afghanistan. Ok, so far so good but then he claimed that his brother was field promoted to MSG because he knew the COL personally and that the COL pulled some strings. Here I am, a cable guy in training, trying to learn from this guy and standing next to a customer (who doesn't believe him either) and I had to call BS. I stopped him and his bragging by informing him that I knew his brother (we were in the same unit) and that we mobilized together. While he did deploy to Afghanistan, he didnt magically jump from PV2 to MSG because he knew our very personable COL. The customer had to turn away because he was laughing so hard. From that point on, I was unable to work with this guy because he just didnt get it. Pretty good at installing cable but horrible at keeping his lies straight. He kept trying to fleece me and other servicemembers, even after we called him out.

In my 40 years of work I have worked with so many ex-marines. 99% of them claim to have been sniper recon. My questions are always who cooks the chow.

Why did you engage him to begin with??
