Heading to Orlando to start the next deployment in CivlantFleet. Any recommendations for communities or networking groups in the area?

I didn't network much when I lived there as there is no AD base there. However, Orlando does have a NAVEX so you will find kindred spirits there.

It's a Navy term for civilian life, sort of like "1st Civilian Division" in the Marine Corps, or perhaps "Fort Living Room" in the Army, as one's next duty station. Just a play on words.

Greetings from Orlando MAJ.
I've been too busy to really have a good understanding of the area, but from what I can tell, it really depends on what you like. Their are lots of great walking neighborhoods that are in and around the downtown areas, but they vary greatly in what they have to offer. Housing is moderately expensive here.
Would you want to have entertainment in walking distance? Are you single?married?kids?
Are quality School districts a concern?
Bike paths, walking/running trails are integral parts of some neighborhoods especially if the neighborhood has a lake (of which there are many).
Would you prefer older housing vs newer housing, urban (city limits) vs county, rent vs purchase? Children's ages if any?
Lots of variables to consider.
I live in the Milk District and walk to work.
I'd be more than happy to scout out an area or two of town for you once you narrow down your desired attributes.
I like the Milk District (not as nice, but growing), but if money and distance to work were not issues, I'd live in Thornton Park.
Mills 50, Winter Park would be decent as well. I stay away from the Disney and Dr. Philips areas as they are significantly over priced and lack charm (mostly newer developments).
