I see a lot of senior leader photos and I see most if not all are wearing the Combat Action Badge but know very well they were never in contact. I think too many people received this award under completely false pretenses.

Heck, me and a friend of mine have been trying to get ours from Iraq in 2007-2008. We are qualified, but were never issued them, or put in for them in theater (it was actually more than just us two). Now we're stuck in a predicament trying to get them approved years later

Had a senior marine officer and sailor HMC I was in Iraq with both got the CAR. Neither never left the wire in Hit but we had so many Marines and sailors getting their CAR that they slide there’s in and intimidated junior personal to say hey remember we were there and wrote statements for them.

That chief got court martialed for faking his Purple Heart and instead of retiring as a HMSC he retired as a HM2.

The reg needs to be changed. The FOB or COP can get hit with a mortor and the metal chasers say they tried to kill everyone so I was directly engaged by the enemy

The US military has a habit of handing out medals like cookies.

I remember looking at my awards page on Marine Online and all of sudden a Combat Action Ribbon was there.  One of the officers put it in for the members in our team who were in this very small firefight and I didn't feel it in my heart that I rated it although under the guidelines I did.  There are a lot of ribbon chasers out there!   However, I definitely rated it in the firefights that occurred later in the deployment anyways.

SFC Grudzinski, I would like to think that these seniors weren't so senior when they qualified. It has been a long war and they probably earned those things a long time ago and probably rightly so.

Additionally, only COLs and below in Infantry Regiments can earn the CIB, so they may have been put in for the CAB instead.

While I agree with you CSM I spent several years as a PSD agent for several flag officers and I can attest to what they were and were not subjected to. When I see a person that I know very well never went outside the wire it raises an eyebrow.
In 2005 on a raid in Afghanistan a combatant fired 3 rounds at us before he was dropped and I heard someone say we were not engaged with the enemy therefore we didn't warrant the award. Of course back then they were just coming out with it so it wasn't given out so easily.

There is no requirement for COL to be in an Infantry Regt. Damn few of them around now days. Just need to be an Infantry Officer, in most cases.

That can be said for many awards.  Don't get me started on purple hearts.  I had a MAJ who ran into a T-wall because he heard an explosion from a mortar round that was over 1000 meters away.  Busted his nose and lip....Purple heart.

Ma'am (CPT Wolfer), I know a Soldier with a very similar story. He's so proud he got a Purple Heart, and I gave up talking to him years ago.

I remember that episode when Frank Burns got a Purple Heart for being hit with a shell fragment......from a hard boiled egg.

Ran into a T-wall and you get a Purple Heart? That sounds like a candidate for the Broken Spur Award in a CAV unit.
