To tell the truth I didn't want to retire. I would much rather be at the wheel of my truck. Than sitting at home trying to occupy my time. I miss the open road, and listening to my truck talk to me. I knew ever sound she made and if that sound was normal. I miss the responsibility of moving an 80000 lb truck across the country. Overall I'd say retirement sucks for me. I'd much rather be working.

Dear Lance Corporal Frieze, I am highly impressed with you. You were responsible for driving an 80000 lb truck across the country! That is Really Something.
I am so sorry that you had to retire; after enjoying this endeavor for as long as you did. You epitomize a vintage truck driver. I Love the fact that: Your truck "talked to you".
It seems as though she was your best friend; LCpl Stanley Frieze.

Spc Margaret Higgins Thanks I did love my job. As for my truck, well I doubt that there isn't a driver out there who is worth his salt that wouldn't tell you his truck truck talks to him. You just gotta know how to listen. I wouldn't say the old girl was my best friend. In fact there were times that she was the last place in the world that I wanted to be, but she was my home. When you are in a truck 320 out of the 365 days in the year it's actually the only place where you feel comfortable, and yes it does talk to you in the low rumble of the engine, the vibration you feel in the seats and bunk the squealing of belt telling you it needs adjusted or the way the trailer bucks can tell you how the load is riding. Did I love my truck? Yes, she kept my family fed and sheltered. There aren't many careers that can hold a person just for the money, and trucking isn't one of them. You gotta love it to do it, because every driver knows that sooner or later that road is going to kill you. Be it in a firey crash or like me a more slow painful death the road always wins, and I miss it.
