I'm a future 35S(I ship in 3 months) who would like to go to the 75th Ranger Regiment. I should also say, i do not have an airborne contract. Is it difficult to be selected for training? I've heard of the new RMIB which is for Military intelligence including signals in the 75th. Basically i just want to avoid a desk job and actually do something in the field with my training but at the same time have a job that will help me get a very good civilian job if that makes sense. Also for any current 35S people, whats your job like? Thanks!

I’m a 35S. Your best chance for tactical collection experience is to go airborne and get assigned to an SF Group. You will most likely have to re-enlist for airborne when your window opens up. Your first assignment will be a strategic assignment. This is traditionally a strategic career field. Group assignments are limited. So if you have it as an option when you re-enlist, jump on it. That’s what I did.

Ok thanks will likely go airborne. What is it like being a 35S? I was attracted to the job because of the top secret clearance, i told my recruiter i was thinking of going fbi or NSA afterwards and they pushed this job on me. They told me it will make me look very attractive for any 3 letter agency (NSA, CIA, or FBI).

If you want to stay tactical your entire career oh, you will not progress very far. That's fine if you don't plan on retiring, or if you plan on retiring as a staff sergeant. Or, if you do not plan on using you're MOS after the military. You're MOS as a strategic and tactical side and to be a valuable member of your MOS, you will need to know both sides.
You can contact the ranger recruiter at 75 recruit at [login to see] your recruiter who recruited you into the army will not be able to help you with this.
If you find that you don't want to sit behind a desk, you can always switch to Infantry after you earn your Ranger tab

There's more than just Rangers out there. Ask your branch manager to be assigned to an SF group, reach out to JSOC, USAPAB, and Great Skills. Those will keep you tactical/operational while giving very advanced training and looking amazing on your record.
