I'm assigned to an Armored Cav unit, but it's not slotted to deploy soon, and I want some experience if possible. Thanks

I am leaving on a tour in September and I volunteered for it, all I did was contact my readiness NCO and got on a list then just kinda had to wait for something to come up. I am a 68w.

Check out this post from the past. Also, many states have "short lists" for volunteers (usually to augment other Units from those states).

Great advise SSG Bockting, I was just about to list some of the answers that have been said before, thought about finding this older post, and you nailed it before I did either.

Your state HQ should have a readiness NCO that knows if slots are available and where. Talk with your Chain of Command so that they know you are trying to get an overseas deployment and they should be able to give you the contact number. You need to be green in MEDPROS for everything, high PT score, high marksmanship score, MOS qualified, and not needing any schools. Some short deployments should also be available as well. Good Luck.

On the 68W site (the MODS page, I cannot remember the exact link), there is a link where you can volunteer for assignment. If you have been on station for over a year, you can look in the Assignment Satisfaction Key for an open requisition. That's how I got my 2nd deployment.
