Hello, I’m huy and I’m looking for a solution for my Army contract,
I enlisted as a reservist and I have walked through all the Meps process and passed all of them. Yet I didn’t get to pick my MOS on the same day cause I have to wait for my background check.
My background check comes back fast, in a month, it’s a good news. However, in a wait time for the background check, I have changed my mind and I want to serve as a full time soldier not just a part time. Plus, all the jobs in reserve don’t fit my skills and interest. Yet I have signed my DD but not the last page in which tells me what day I am shipping. I have nene asking my recruiter to help me switch it but they keep saying they can’t and the army won’t let me do it? Is there any way around or ?
Also, I told my recruiter the only day I accept to go reserve if I have an airborne contrAct in my reserve contract , but the recruiter told me I would not get it cause the army doesn’t give it out to the reserve? Is there any way I can negotiate with them?
I dont go to the army for the benefit, I’m 25 and have my own career and strong in finance. I just want to serve and give some back for the nation, but yet I didn’t know it would be this stressful to plan everything and be prepare before I sacrifice my job and my lifetime to the military. Please help!

If you haven't shipped yet you can always change your contract you are still considered a DEP. Go to the station commander if you have to but tell him you want to go Active Duty and not Reserve. It is your future not the recruiters future.

Thank you for responding, the recruiter told me that if I go to Meps and negotiate with them and tell them I want to switch to active then I have to wait for 6 months then I can go back to Meps and do it? Is that true and I don’t quite understand how it’s gonna work when all they tell me is to go to Meps and neogiate there?
Plus, I have signed the DD form4 page 1-2-3 but not the fourth page, and I also got swore in on that day at Meps but didn’t pick a job? So how come my process is too complicated ?

That I’m not sure about the time frame. I’m not a recruiter and don’t want to give you the wrong information that I don’t know. But wouldn’t make sense that you would have to wait 6 months you didn’t fail asvab test.. (Join to see)

SFC(P) (Join to see) he had to wait 6 months because he’s a reservist. His time has already started. He is not a DEP as he is a reservist.

SFC (Join to see) - Yeah ive never understood the army reserve or national guard, I will never understand how someone is in the military while never attending a Boot camp/BCT. But like I said I'm not a recruiter and didn't want to give wrong info. But recruiting world is a different world.

The only people that can help you is an active duty recruiter. If you were active duty and hadn't shipped yet then you would be a delayed entry hold and could switch. But, reserves don't have a delayed entry.
Contact an active duty recruiter. They are familiar with navigating MEPS.

Too many people chime in not knowing AR 601-210. I’m glad to see you pushing him to the SME’s.

SFC (Join to see) I try to make sure I only ever give advice on knowledge I can back up by pointing to a regulation or policy, and pushing them to the SME when I don't. A smart man knows what he knows, a wise man knows what he doesn't know.

Hi, can you help me with info regarding changing my MOS. Just signed 11B yesterday at MEPS. Ship out in 40 days. Felt pressured to accept but did and left MEPS Contacting my recruiter tonrw. Advice on getting this done smoothly. I know it will be a lot of paperwork and my recruiter will not be pleased. Thank you!
