About a month after I retired in 1979, I received by mai, a MSM Medal and Certificate. These have been misplaced over he years. I have attempted to get coy of the orders to have my DD 214 amended, and no one seems to be able to help; even being told once that"You never received the MSM." Any suggestions??

SFC Bill Snyder Have you tried using the Veteran resources on the NPRC website?
Vetrecs: https://vetrecs.archives.gov/VeteranRequest/home.html
Or Google NPRC obtain veteran records. You may have some luck. They can't blame it on the fire.
Have you tried going to the issuing headquarters for the MSM? It would be the two star command's G1. There is a reason they issue a permanent order number.

I've contact DA, Army Records, etc. I even sent in a copy of the Award Certificate. Some one must have a record of Gereral Orders issued by Ft. Jackson. Guess I'll have to pay them a visit. Also send the request to FtKnox. BTW, I thought Army Recordswas atFt Ben.Thanks all for the help.

SFC Bill Snyder - youre looking for the permanent order, which is the DA 638 once the award is approved. The G1 slaps a PO number on the backside, bottom. The PO may or may not be on the certificate, bottom right. General Orders are a different kettle of fish. They are used to publish unit citations, LOMs for Individuals, and Valor Awards for individuals.

The 638 souls have been put in your record, request a copy of your military record. Once you have it along with any other changes you want made to your DD214 submit a DD215 change document, submit to HRC @ Fort Knox

OK. An update. Finally went to my Safe Deposit Box and in it there was an envelope I received some years ago when I asked for a copy of my Military Records. It it was a barely legible set of orders dated Sept 14,1979. On the second page there it was, Award of the MSM. What a trip. Going to send off the necessary paperwork tomorrow for the DD Fm 214 correction. I Want to thank all of you for the help, assistance and guidance in this search. So, as they would say in my second life: Cold Case Successfully closed.
