I am commissioning in a couple of months, and I need some help finding USAR units. I tried asking my program and haven't got much feedback and guidance. I also checked AKO USAR vacancy search, but it seems to be outdated from the recruiters tell me.

Whatever recruiter you spoke to can call or e mail their S3, they can pull a vacancy load for USAR units in your area. If you email me I can look on Tuesday for units in your area.

Hi Terrell, talk to a reserve recruiter - that's how I did my transfer from NG to reserves. If you need more help, please reach out!

Oops, sorry I just saw the rest that you've already talked to a recruiter. They should be able to give you the POC for the units though. Where are you located?

I'm currently in NM right now but I'm looking for units in Knoxville, TN and Hawaii as I plan to move after I graduate and commission.

1LT (Join to see) - The best thing I would say is find recruiters in that region and ask them for the POCs for units that you want to look at!

Just an update, I have emailed this cadet a few times. He is already in the SMP with the National Guard. He is not in the Reserve...he is assigned a unit as an SMP cadet. SOOOOO... if you have a Soldier in this scenario, please educate them. Please.

Correct SFC Komarek. There may have been a misunderstanding. I understand I’m SMP with the NG but I am trying to comission into the USAR. I understand I would need to get a DD368 signed before commissioning.

1LT (Join to see) - do you understand what SMP is? After you commission, do you really believe that guard will release you? You haven't even commissioned yet and your looking to jump to another branch.. that does not look good. I'm more than happy to have you come to the Reserve, however, you need to contact the Company Commander of the unit you are already assigned to and talk to him/her

Yes. I was told I can choose to go reserves or national guard before I commission as long as I find a unit that will accept me and get a DD368. Thanks for your help I found a unit and POC.
