I will be eligible to reclass in April of 2020 . I’m already enrolled in the Fast Class for January to raise my GT score or Asvab score overall . I still can’t decide which MOS to reclass to but I do know I would love to experience Southcom at some point in my career . So I’m trying to see what MOS/School/Training that would help me achieve that goal. Does any one have any ideas?

SPC (Join to see) I would invite you to pull the Jount Manning Document, JMD, from FMS Web using your handy dandy CAC to see what slots they have. As 1SG (Join to see) says, learn how to Army first. This will most likely be a nominative job that your branch will pick high performers for.

As a bare minimum, you need to be a SGT promotable to work at that level.
Additionally, you need to be in a career field as Signal, Admin, PA, Intel, or Spec Ops just to name a few.
My advise, first learn how to Army at the tactical and operational level before going strategic.

The short answer is you don’t. You get picked. And you do not have enough rank to get to SOUTHCOM especially since it’s a COCOM headquarters. Soldiers who try and set their careers up to end up at one specific location are hurting the Army in the long run because in the event you do not get SOUTHCOM (Which you won’t) you will not be in the right head to be a proactive member of another organization.

As I mentioned in the post I just want the experience as I’m planning on doing my 20 but who knows maybe more and I’m not looking to staying in one place as I joined the army to travel . Thank you so much for the information .

Few things:
1. Like others have mentioned, not a lot of opportunities in a Geographical Commmad for a junior NCO; regardless of MOS.
2. Focus on becoming a master on your MOS, whatever it may be.
3. If you plan on making a career... see 2.
4. Housing in Miami is expensive (BAH doesn’t make any justice) so you definitely don’t want to go there unless your finances are squared away.
5. Assignaments at those organizations are, most of the time, by nominations. Branch managers, once a requirement is identified, select who goes based on experience and performance. See number 2.
6. Other option might be to inquire about the Defense Attaché System. See AR 611-60. This is for worldwide assignaments as needed, nevertheless a great gig.
