I have been in 3 years and 7 months been a SGT since March. I am looking to go drill sergeant when my TIS and TIG requirements are met. What can I do to make sure my packet doesn’t get denied? How can I beef it up? I will have a 270+ APFT hoping to get ALC before as well. How else can I make sure it looks good? Can I submit it early/prior to my TIS/TIG requirements are met? Any advice to help me with this endeavor is greatly appreciated!!

Female DS are always in need.
If you have no derogatory info in your packet, no waivers needed, Meet the prerequisites and have the time on station needed to be eligible for reassignment, your all but assured to get a DS assignment

SGT McMillin,
From the sounds of things, your packet sounds like it will be a winner. From looking at the DSC checklist, there is not much for this packet from all the other packets I have completed such as; Recruiter, BNCOC, PLDC,. Having ALC will be a big buster for your packet. Good luck to you when you go, I leave for DSS this July.

As a former Drill Sergeant and Company First Sergeant of a Reserve Drill Sergeant Unit, I have reviewed many DS Packets prior to sending them to higher and Drill Sergeant Academy (DSA). That being said, review the requirements as posted on the DSA website and follow the instructions diligently. Ensure everything in your packet is up to date and accurate. You should be just fine.

Thank you, CSM. Could I get a head start on submitting it or do I have to wait till I meet the TIS/TIG requirements?

I’m waiting on hitting my one year TIG in March then dropping it I think. I’ve talked to multiple people and a few have advised to do more than 7 months in my new job so I may wait till I’ve been where I am now for a year then drop it. We will see. But definitely not going to be able to submit it till March

Interesting. Picking up my 5 very soon. I would love to submit a packet for the school as well. Maybe once I am gearing up to get my six in two years i'll give it a try.

Ad long as you have a clean record, you should be fine. Just make sure you get your KD time.

It shouldn’t they need Drill Sergeants. Only way to get DQ if background checks comes up spotty and you have a DUI
