Check your orders it will say that you are aloud to ship a pov at Government Expense, as a first termer I'm not sure that is possible but you are aloud house hold baggage up to 500 lb, just go to the transportation office and request it, you will need five sets of orders. I help my nephew do this right out of basic training and he had no issues and they came to his mothers house and picked up all of his things but you have to go through the Transportation Office at your post. You can also ask about shipment of a POV.

Frank, it seems from your comments that the rules have changed dramatically since I was in service. It used to be E4 over four years of service that could qualify and allow shipment of HHG and POV--and that was just for overseas' PCS.

I don't think you'll find any details. I've never heard of that ever happening for a new recruit being stationed stateside.

In my day a soldier had to be an E4 over four years in service, as a minimum, to benefit from POV shipping. Has it changed?

SFC Greg Bruorton - I'm not sure. I retired in 2011, so my knowledge is getting stale. I recall POV shipping was only offered for overseas assignments, and only under certain circumstances. Stateside, you had to get your POV to your duty station on your own (but the military would reimburse you for mileage).

I doubt it’ll happen. They didn’t let me ship mine from basic, and I spoke with the transportation office. Good luck.
