How can my soldier and his military spouse get BAH?

My soldier is stationed here at fort bragg, his wife is stationed in Alaska. They got married last year and they are both still getting paid as if they are single soldiers. Is this how it’s supposed be because I thought one of them was supposed to receive BAH?

You get either BAH or quarters. If they are stationed at separate posts and both are in Government Quarters, then no BAH.

I recommend you have your Soldier speak with Admin and Finance to get the specific answers and instructions they will need. I recommend you go with them to ensure you are educated as well.

I am still amazed at some of the questions that are posted here. Any question about things like BAH should be addressed to your unit/base EXPERTS instead of seeking a resolution on some forum. I am retired from the Air Force and have a pretty good knowledge of the rules and regulations.....HOWEVER, my knowledge and expertise is more than 33 years old. I'm smart enough to say that some things have changed since I retired in 1988 so anything I should opine on regulations is just that...an opinion. Why don't active duty personnel talk to finance about financial questions, personnel office about personnel questions, etc.? Stop looking for someone to give you the easy answer and do the work yourself. You'll remember the process and answers much better if you do! Just my opinion!

My soldier and I have exhausted all of our resources, our “S1” doesn’t even know the process and we work for BDE. Even our Battalions can’t give us a straight forward answer. Our leadership “doesn’t know how dual marriage works” so this was pretty much my last place to ask. SFC (Verify To See)

When you've exhausted all local sources (I can't believe your personnel office doesn't know the answer or isn't willing to query HQ US Army for an answer), you can always solicit the assistance of your Army Sergeant Major (just guessing that's what he/she is called). If you aren't that bold, try contacting your Congressman/woman. You will get an answer, even if you don't like the answer.

First, are they in base housing or living out in town? If they are in bas housing they don't rate BAH. So if they rate BAH and aren't receiving it they need to go to Admin and get it squared away. Easy solution.

I would also like to add they both live in the barracks and neither are receiving BAH, BAS nor Separation Pay.

If the Army is providing barracks for them, then why would the Army also need to provide Basic Allowance for Housing?
Do they have kids who are staying with someone else?

The Lance Corporal is correct. If they are being provided quarters, there is no BAH. If they are in the Barracks and are issued a meal card, that covers their BAS. Separation Allowance requires a dependent.

They won’t get BAS either since they are in the barracks and get a meal card to eat in the DFAC. Until one or the other PCS to the other their pay is perfectly fine and has been for the last year. Knowing they are both in the barracks everyone should of told them there pay was fine over a year ago.
